About Me
Empowering children one heart at a time
Kelly Varhola, M.A. Licensed Professional Counselor – Associate
Supervised by Meredith A. Ivey, M.Ed LPC-S, RPT-S, Certified CCPT
Hello! I’m Kelly
In my journey as a helper, I am grateful for the gift of empathy God has bestowed upon me. As a former elementary and middle school teacher and Dyslexia specialist, my career goal has been to inspire strength and resilience in children.
I entered the field of counseling because it combined my love of empowering children with assisting families through transitions and challenges. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from The University of North Texas, and later pursued a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health and Professional School Counseling from Midwestern State University. Currently, I work as an elementary school counselor while also managing my own private practice.
Mom-Life and Beyond
As a mother, I understand life is a crazy adventure! My husband, Erik, and I have two boys who keep us on our toes. Liam (11) and Eli (8) will be the first to tell you I am not the perfect mom. I yell a little more than I’d like, I burn everything I cook, and I balance it all imperfectly. Isn’t that motherhood? However, my heart is full when I am with my family, through the good and….challenging?
I am a baseball mom, and I love to fish! When I can sneak in “me” time between all mom duties and a career, I listen to music, sing, read, and watch Netflix.
I carry a heart brimming with compassion. It is this the deep empathy and being a mother myself, that drives me to understand the struggles and challenges families face. By embracing your stories and experiences, I strive to provide a safe space where your child can be heard, seen, and validated.
Expertise
My expertise is with children who deal with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or trauma. Whether that is met with play therapy for the littles or talking it through with adolescents and teens, I believe in the power of a therapeutic approach for all ages.
Please explore the provided information on two of my primary approaches, Play Therapy and CBT. I create a relationship where children can express their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. We will explore their feelings, build resilience, develop coping skills, and promote healing.
